Improving knowledge and building confidence through essential education for
therapists offering foot treatments
Since 2020, as part of the expansion of our 'Hands on Feet' workshop portfolio, DUET diabetes have been 'thinking outside the box' as to how to do more to reduce diabetic foot problems. Reaching people offering foot related treatments (such as beauty therapists, nail technicians and reflexologists) was a light bulb moment for us!
We are delighted to announce that our Diabetic Foot Awareness online course for professionals working in the beauty and holistic therapy sectors, has been updated and has a new ‘home’. Through a collaboration with The Holistic, Beauty & Nail Training Group this course is now available on their 'Therapy Learning Resources' platform.
Students can learn at a time and pace that suits them! They can re-visit the content whenever they want to. They can benefit from lots of relevant resources for themselves and their clients living with diabetes.
We want to continue to support the beauty and holistic therapy sectors and their clients by providing a course that allows students to train at their own convenience and relevant to their roles. This accredited course (4 CPD points) is certified after completing and passing the short assessment.
The course is designed for learners to understand the diabetic foot and feel confident of when to go ahead with treatments and when to leave alone. Students will also learn what advice (within their scope of practice, and not of a clinical nature) to give as well as when to encourage clients to seek additional footcare (from a healthcare professional) if they spot signs of foot problems.
Having a foot ulcer can have a huge impact on someone's health and wellbeing. The NHS spends more on diabetic footcare in England than the combined cost of breast, prostate and lung cancers.*
We feel that this profession can provide an immensely useful additional pair of eyes, ears and hands for their clients living with diabetes, and could be part of the solution to help reduce the 180+ diabetes related amputations that take place in England each week**!
The course is divided up into pre-recorded sections and led by an experienced Podiatrist from DUET diabetes. Students will be able to access a variety of supporting documentation, including a new leaflet ‘diabetes: foot awareness for clients’ and also a filmed ‘pre-treatment examination’ demonstration.

**Note that you will need to check with your insurance provider that you are covered to treat clients living with diabetes (you may need to ask your client to provide a letter from their GP / healthcare professional responsible for their diabetes care).

Alternatively, for larger groups (such as colleges, beauty schools/academies) we can run this in person at your setting - please
